Lalu Prasad Yadav Names Newborn Grandson Iraj, Drawing on Spiritual Significance

Former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad has named his newborn grandson Iraj, invoking religious symbolism and family tradition.

Patna: RJD supremo Lalu Prasad has named his newborn grandson “Iraj”, a name chosen jointly with his wife, Rabri Devi, he announced on Wednesday via social media platform X.

The name was revealed a day after their son, Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav, shared the first photo of the child on Tuesday, expressing joy at the baby’s arrival. “Finally the wait is over. I am very happy with the arrival of a small child in the house. Jai Hanuman,” Tejashwi wrote in the caption.

In his post, Lalu Prasad explained the inspiration behind the name, stating that the boy’s elder sister, Katyayani, was born during the Navratri festival, while Iraj was born on a Tuesday, considered auspicious in reverence to Lord Hanuman. “So our granddaughter Katyayani’s little brother is named ‘Iraj’ by me and Rabri Devi. Tejashwi and Rajshree have given him the full name as ‘Iraj Lalu Yadav,’” Lalu wrote.

He added that both mother and baby are doing well and thanked supporters for their blessings.
