Land Acquisition for Muzaffarpur’s Patahi Airport Begins, Boosting Hopes for Economic Growth

Muzaffarpur / Patna : The long-awaited development of Patahi Airport in Muzaffarpur is gaining momentum as the process of acquiring 475 acres of land has officially begun. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has initiated the land acquisition, while the district administration is preparing estimates for the construction of a runway and access road. These estimates have been forwarded to the Road Construction Department (RCD) for technical approval, signalling significant progress towards the airport’s operationalisation.

Aviation Training Academy and Infrastructure Plans

In addition to the runway, a proposal has been made to establish an aviation training academy at the airport, which is expected to create new employment opportunities for young people. The AAI has also granted a no-objection certificate (NOC) for the construction of the runway and boundary wall. Efforts to repair the damaged boundary wall of Patahi Airport are set to commence soon, following a formal request by the AAI’s Patna division to the Directorate.

Plans are also underway to construct a VIP lounge at the airport. The Building Construction Department has been tasked with providing a technically approved estimate for the project.

Draft MoU Submitted with Usage Conditions

The AAI headquarters in New Delhi has submitted a draft Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that outlines the terms and conditions for the airport’s use over the next 15 years. This draft is currently being revised in light of suggestions provided by the Law Department.

Economic and Connectivity Boost

The operationalisation of Patahi Airport is expected to provide a significant boost to the region’s economy by enhancing business opportunities and promoting tourism. Improved connectivity with other cities will facilitate smoother travel and encourage investment in the region. The establishment of an aviation training academy is likely to generate employment in both technical and non-technical sectors, contributing to overall socio-economic development.
