Patna : Authorities in Bihar have been thrown into disarray after land records for 17 police stations in Muzaffarpur district were found to be missing, prompting urgent directives from senior police officials.
The missing documents came to light during a statewide land survey being conducted across all districts. According to officials, land records for police stations such as Gaighat, Maniyari, and Siwaipatti—some of which were only recently constructed—are untraceable in departmental archives. The absence of these papers has triggered concern at both the district and state levels.
According to media Reports, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) for Muzaffarpur has issued strict orders to station in-charges, instructing them to locate and submit all relevant land documents to the Police Headquarters and the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) of the Tirhut Range. The SSP has also formally notified the District Magistrate and requested support from zonal officers to help recover the documents.
“The matter is being treated with utmost seriousness,” a senior police official said. “The absence of these records, especially for newly built police stations, raises several questions and demands immediate attention.”
Among the affected police stations are Saraiya, Nagar, Brahmapura, Qazi Mohammadpur, Meenapur, Kanti, Siwaipatti, Peer, Sakra, Kudhni, Katra, Baruraj, Sahebganj, Paru, Gaighat, Mahila Thana, and Maniyari Thana. While some station officials, such as Siwaipatti SHO Manmohan Kumar and Maniyari SHO Devvrat Kumar, have assured that relevant documents either exist or are being traced, others like Sakra continue to operate from ageing buildings with no accessible records.
