Patna: A lawyer was shot dead in broad daylight on Sunday in Phulwarisharif, Patna, sparking concerns over the deteriorating law and order situation in the city. The victim, Jitendra Kumar Mahato, was returning home after his routine afternoon tea when he was surrounded by criminals and shot near Sultanganj police station.

Three shells were recovered from the spot. Mahato, who lived in Mohammadpur and practised at the civil court, was rushed to PMCH by his family but succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

According to police officials, CCTV footage from nearby areas is being examined and local residents are being questioned. The family revealed that Mahato had stopped going to court for the last two years and owned several properties, including shops rented out to tenants.

Patna SSP Kartikeya Sharma confirmed that multiple teams are investigating possible motives behind the murder, including property disputes. The incident has left the legal fraternity and residents in shock, demanding stricter policing to curb rising street crimes.
