PATNA – The Health Department has decided to postpone the recommendation for the appointment of 3270 AYUSH doctors, citing compliance with a recent Supreme Court order. This order directs the recognition of the Graduate in Ayurvedic and Unani Medicine (GAMS) degree conducted under the State Faculty of Ayurvedic and Unani Medicine.

On January 11, Alankrita Pandey, the Joint Secretary of the Health Department, penned a letter to the Secretary of the Bihar Technical Service Commission, formally requesting the postponement of the recommendation process for the selected candidates.
The Joint Secretary’s letter highlights that, in adherence to the Supreme Court’s order, amendments are being made to the Bihar District AYUSH Medical-State AYUSH Medical Service (Regular-Contract) Appointment and Service Conditions Rules 2010. The draft of these amendments has received approval from the authorized committee.

Notably, an advertisement was published in September 2020 for the appointment of 3270 AYUSH medical officers. However, the degree of Graduate in Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery was not initially recognized. This discrepancy led many candidates to seek legal recourse.
Due to the non-recognition of the degree, numerous candidates sought refuge in the court. In November 2007, the Supreme Court issued an order recognizing the candidates for AYUSH physician posts, leading to the current legal adjustments and the subsequent postponement of the appointment recommendations.
