Patna: Security at Jayaprakash Narayan Airport in Patna was heightened after two live cartridges were recovered from the bag of a passenger, Mohammad Rashid Akhtar, during pre-boarding checks for a Patna to Hyderabad flight. The discovery of the ammunition caused a temporary stir at the airport.
According to airport sources, a senior executive of IndiGo Airlines became suspicious while the passenger’s bag was being scanned. Subsequently, a thorough search of the bag was conducted, leading to the recovery of two live cartridges.
The passenger, Mohammad Rashid Akhtar, reportedly expressed ignorance about the presence of the cartridges in his luggage. He claimed to have no knowledge of how they ended up in his bag.
Following the discovery, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel at the airport immediately took Mohammad Rashid Akhtar into custody and handed him over to the Patna Airport Police Station. Akhtar was scheduled to fly from Patna to Hyderabad and then onward to Muscat, where he works as a laborer for a private company.
