Patna: A man died after receiving an electric shock from a live iron pole in a flood-hit village of Patna district, triggering outrage over alleged negligence by the local electricity department.
The incident occurred in Chaksarwar village, under the jurisdiction of Athmalgola police station in Barh subdivision. Sunil Das, aged 45, had gone to a field for defecation when he reportedly came into contact with the pole, which was conducting electricity.
According to his brother Sanjay Kumar, Sunil stuck to the pole momentarily before collapsing. Bystanders witnessed the incident and immediately alerted his family. Sunil was rushed to the Barh sub-divisional hospital but was declared dead on arrival by doctors.
The victim was the sole breadwinner in his family and leaves behind four young children. The tragic death has sparked grief and anger in the village. Locals have blamed the electricity department for leaving live wires or poles exposed, particularly in areas inundated by floodwaters.
Following the incident, police conducted a post-mortem and handed over the body to the family. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine how the pole became electrified and whether it could have been prevented.
