Muzaffarpur: A devastating fire broke out in Vijayi Chhapra village of Ahiyapur police station area in Muzaffarpur on Wednesday afternoon due to a short circuit. The fire spread rapidly, engulfing more than 20 houses. The situation worsened when three gas cylinders exploded, making it difficult for the fire brigade to control the blaze. It took nearly three hours and multiple fire brigade vehicles to douse the flames.
At the time of the incident, most of the men in the locality were away for work, leaving women to struggle to save themselves and their children. The fire was so intense that people could only watch from a distance. Despite desperate attempts, everything in the affected houses was reduced to ashes.
The estimated loss from the fire is around Rs. 50 lakh. Many families lost all their belongings, including cash and valuables. Poonam Devi, one of the victims, said her shop was completely destroyed, and the money she had saved for her daughter’s wedding was also burnt in the fire.
The fire department has started an investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire, while the local administration has begun relief efforts to assist the affected families.
