Begusarai / Patna : Police in Bihar have launched an investigation after a woman allegedly buried her newborn baby alive in a shocking incident that has stunned locals in the Begusarai district.

The baby boy was reportedly found alive after police exhumed him from a shallow grave near a private hospital in Barauni, under the Fulwadia police station area. The mother, who had recently given birth, is said to have taken the infant on the pretext of breastfeeding him before carrying out the act.

According to police, the woman was admitted to the hospital on 9 April, where she gave birth to the child. On Sunday, hospital staff handed the baby to the mother to feed. Shortly after, the newborn went missing, triggering panic among hospital personnel and a search of the premises.

Sub-inspector Gautam Kumar said police were informed of the disappearance and arrived on the scene to begin an investigation. During questioning, the woman allegedly confessed to burying her child nearby. Officers quickly located and dug up the site where she said the baby had been buried.

“To our shock, the baby was still alive,” said Kumar. “He was rescued immediately and given medical attention. The investigation is ongoing, and we are examining all aspects of the case.”

Local authorities have not yet confirmed the mother’s motive. The condition of the child is currently stable, and he remains under medical supervision.

The incident has sparked outrage and disbelief in the community, with many questioning how such an act could occur in a medical facility.
