Patna: Patna is set to get a new cultural and business landmark with the construction of a state-of-the-art Haat near Gandhi Maidan. The modern marketplace, being built at a cost of Rs 48.96 crore, will be developed as a three-storey emporium showcasing the rich heritage of ancient Magadha.
The Haat will be located on the western side of the Civilisation Gate and will include underground and surface parking facilities, two restaurants, a game zone for children and youth, a lift, water tanks, CCTV surveillance, a fire fighting system and alarm, solar power generation, and street lighting. A boundary wall will enclose the entire complex.
Designed on the lines of the popular Mithila Haat in Madhubani, this Haat will exhibit Bihar’s famous arts such as Madhubani painting, Manjusha art of Bhagalpur, Tikuli painting of Patna, and Sikki craft. Visitors will also find bamboo and cane crafts from Samastipur, clay and ceramic arts from Darbhanga, leather shoes, belts and bags, Sujni embroidery from Muzaffarpur, stone craft from Gaya, and booti art from Nalanda.
The project is being implemented by Bihar State Tourism Corporation Limited and is expected to be completed within 24 months. It aims to provide a platform for artisans while giving Patna a distinctive cultural and commercial identity.
