Monsoon Fully Active in Bihar; Orange Alert in 25 Districts, Record Rainfall in Gayaji

Patna: The monsoon has become fully active across Bihar, bringing widespread rainfall to all 38 districts. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for 25 districts and a yellow alert for the remaining 13, warning of heavy rains over the next 24 hours.
According to the Patna Meteorological Centre, a low-pressure area has developed over southwest Bangladesh and adjoining West Bengal. “The associated cyclonic circulation is extending up to 7.6 km above sea level and is expected to move northwest, becoming more active over Gangetic West Bengal,” said an official from IMD Patna.
Record Rainfall in Gayaji
Several districts recorded significant rainfall in the past 24 hours. Gayaji topped the chart with 105 mm, followed by Aurangabad (74 mm), Nalanda (50 mm), Lakhisarai (47.2 mm), and Banka (38.2 mm). The heavy rains have led to a 3 to 4°C drop in maximum temperatures, offering much-needed respite from the heat.
Weather to Remain Active in Several Districts
Districts such as Bhagalpur, Gayaji, Nawada, and West Champaran are expected to witness intensified monsoon activity due to the prevailing weather system.
Administration on Alert
In response to the alerts, the state government has instructed all municipal corporations and district administrations to ensure proper drainage in low-lying areas. The Disaster Management Department has deployed teams across districts to stay ready for relief and rescue operations.
Relief from Heat, But Humidity Persists
While the maximum temperatures have dropped significantly, the humidity remains high, keeping the discomfort levels elevated. Nonetheless, residents are welcoming the rain as a much-needed break from the scorching summer.
The IMD has urged residents and farmers to stay updated on weather advisories and take necessary precautions during the ongoing heavy rainfall spell.
