Monsoon to Enter Bihar in 48 Hours, IMD Issues Heavy Rainfall Alert for Several Districts

Patna: After days of oppressive heat and humidity, Bihar is set to receive much-needed relief as the southwest monsoon is expected to enter the state within the next 48 hours via Purnia and Kishanganj. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to moderate rainfall across several districts and has issued an orange alert for thunderstorms and heavy rain in the northern regions.
According to the Patna Meteorological Centre, the monsoon is likely to bring rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds with speeds ranging between 40–50 km/h. The weather activity is expected to persist in various parts of the state until June 22.
Districts Likely to Receive Rain:
Over the next 24 hours, light to moderate rainfall is expected in:
- Patna, East and West Champaran, Siwan, Saran, Gopalganj, Kishanganj, Araria, Katihar, Madhepura, Saharsa, Munger, Bhagalpur, Banka, Nawada, Gaya, Nalanda, Samastipur, Bhojpur, Buxar, Jehanabad, Jamui, Rohtas, and Kaimur.
Heavy Rainfall Alert:
A warning for heavy rainfall has been issued for:
- Sitamarhi
- Madhubani
- Supaul
- Araria
- Kishanganj
The IMD has issued an orange alert for these districts, cautioning residents about potential thunderstorms and gusty winds.
Rainfall and Temperature Observations:
Rainfall was reported in several parts of the state over the past 24 hours, including Siwan, Rohtas, Purnia, Gopalganj, Nawada, Katihar, Bhagalpur, East Champaran, and Bhabua.
- Siwan recorded the highest rainfall at 35.2 mm.
- Chhapra recorded the highest temperature at 41.1°C, while Patna reported a maximum temperature of 38.6°C.
- A noticeable drop in daytime temperatures was observed in 20 districts, including Patna.
