Munger ASI Murder: Police Killings Spur Action as Criminal Shot in Encounter

Munger / Patna : Police in Munger have taken swift action following the death of Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Santosh Kumar Singh, who succumbed to injuries sustained in an attack late on Friday night. In an ensuing encounter, officers shot and wounded a suspect linked to the attack, identified as Guddu Yadav.

Santosh Kumar, posted at Mufassil police station in Munger, was assaulted with a sharp weapon while responding to a dispute in Nandlalpur village. He was rushed to Sadar Hospital and later referred to Paras Hospital in Patna, where he died early on Saturday.

Police Action and Arrests

Following Santosh Kumar’s death, police launched a crackdown on those involved. In an encounter, they shot Guddu Yadav in the right leg. Yadav was later taken into custody, and four others, including a woman, have been arrested in connection with the case.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Syed Imran Masood stated that officers were transporting Yadav to Bakarpur for further investigation when their vehicle overturned while trying to avoid a goat. Four policemen were injured in the crash. Taking advantage of the situation, Yadav allegedly seized a rifle from an officer and attempted to fire. Police responded by shooting him in self-defence.

“The operation is ongoing, and we are conducting raids to apprehend other suspects involved in the attack,” Masood said.

Attack on ASI Santosh Kumar Singh

The attack occurred on March 14, after police received a call on Dial 112 about a dispute between two groups in Nandlalpur village. Singh and his team arrived to mediate, but one of the groups turned violent, assaulting him with a sharp weapon. He sustained multiple head injuries and was immediately taken to hospital, where he later died.

Tributes and Final Honours

Santosh Kumar Singh, a native of Pipariya village in Kaimur district, will be honoured with a guard of honour at Munger Police Line before his body is sent to his hometown for the final rites.
