Muzaffarpur: DRI Seizes Indonesia-Made Cigarettes Worth Rs 1.08 Crore in Smuggling Operation
Muzaffarpur: Indonesia-made cigarettes worth Rs 1 crore and 8 lakh were seized from a container with a Uttar Pradesh registration number in Muzaffarpur. The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) arrested the container’s driver, who was involved in the smuggling operation. After interrogation, the driver was presented in court and sent to judicial custody.
According to DRI sources, they received a tip-off about foreign cigarettes being smuggled through Muzaffarpur. Acting on this information, the DRI team intercepted the container at the Maithi toll plaza. A search revealed 720,000 foreign cigarettes inside.
The cigarettes, smuggled from Myanmar, were valued at Rs 15 to 20 per stick. The driver admitted to being paid extra to transport the contraband in addition to the usual fare.
