Muzaffarpur: Ex-Army Man Shoots Drug-Addicted Son Dead, Surrenders to Police

Muzaffarpur: A retired army Jawan shot and killed his 35-year-old son in a fit of rage late Friday night in Gorihari village, located in the Turki police station area of Muzaffarpur district. The accused, reportedly frustrated with his son’s repeated violent behavior and substance abuse, surrendered to police after the incident and handed over his licensed firearm.
The deceased has been identified as Shashi Ranjan Singh, who had a history of alcohol abuse and previous jail terms. According to police, Shashi had assaulted both his father and mother on multiple occasions, often demanding money to fuel his addiction.
Father Used Licensed Weapon, Confesses to Crime
Police said the retired soldier, who now works as a security guard at Bank of India in Sakri Saraiya, shot his son twice with his licensed gun. After the shooting, he contacted local authorities and surrendered voluntarily.
“Preliminary investigation reveals that the father, in a state of extreme mental and emotional distress, acted out after repeated abuse from his son,” said an officer from Turki police station. “He is currently in custody and being questioned. The weapon used in the crime has been seized.”
History of Violence and Criminal Record
Family members and locals stated that Shashi Ranjan had been to jail two to three times in the past in connection with various incidents. Police are now verifying his criminal background and searching for previous records.
The victim’s body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and further investigation is underway.

The shooting caused panic and shock in the local community. As news spread, residents gathered outside the victim’s home, prompting increased police presence in the area to maintain calm.
