Muzaffarpur Gold Heist: Conmen Posing as Police, Army Personnel Steal Jewellery Worth Rs 2 Lakh from Shop

Muzaffarpur / Patna : In a case that has left both residents and law enforcement stunned, two men posing as a police officer and an army personnel duped a jeweller and fled with gold jewellery worth nearly Rs 2 lakh in Muzaffarpur.

The incident took place in broad daylight on Thursday in the bustling Lenin Chowk area under the jurisdiction of Kazimohammadpur Police Station. The primary accused walked into Chandan Kumar’s jewellery shop on Majhauliya Road and posed as a prospective buyer. He initially purchased a silver bangle and paid in full, establishing a sense of trust.

He then asked to see gold ornaments and specifically requested anklets, saying his “madam” would soon arrive to finalise the purchase. Flashing a fake police ID, the man introduced himself as the local station house officer (SHO) and demanded a special discount. Shortly after, another man entered the shop, addressed the first as “Sir”, and introduced himself as an army jawan, wearing a military-style cap.

Together, the duo distracted the shopkeeper, asked for a bill to be made for a few selected items, and during the confusion, managed to slip away with a small packet of gold jewellery. The stolen items included earrings, tops, and chains, valued at around Rs 2 lakh.

The crime was captured on CCTV installed inside the shop. Shop owner Chandan Kumar promptly lodged a written complaint with the local police. “The footage clearly shows the men touching the jewellery repeatedly and creating diversions,” he said.

Kazimohammadpur Station House Officer Jay Prakash Singh confirmed that the suspects are being identified using CCTV footage and will be apprehended soon. “Their faces are visible. We are confident of making arrests shortly,” he said.
