Muzaffarpur: A horrifying case of domestic violence emerged from Harpur Balda village in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district, where a man allegedly attacked his two sleeping children with a sharp weapon following a quarrel with his wife. The incident, which occurred late on Wednesday night, has left the local community in shock.
The accused, identified as Dilip Kumar Pandit, is said to have used a dabiya—a type of sharp blade—to slash the neck and hands of his two sons while they slept. The younger child, 3-month-old Divyanshu, died on the spot, while his 3-year-old brother, Kartik, sustained severe injuries and is currently receiving treatment at a local hospital.
The children’s mother informed police that the attack took place shortly after an intense argument between the couple. Dilip fled the scene before officers arrived. As of Thursday afternoon, police said the suspect remains absconding, and search operations are ongoing.
Kudhni Station House Officer Ravi Prakash confirmed that an initial investigation has been launched. “We received information from villagers and reached the site immediately. One child was already dead, and the other was taken to hospital in critical condition. The accused fled the village before we could apprehend him,” said Prakash.
The mother, still in shock, has not yet been able to register an official complaint. Police, however, stated that they are proceeding with legal action based on preliminary evidence and statements.
The brutal nature of the crime has stunned residents of Harpur Balda, with many struggling to comprehend the act. “This has never happened in our village. We are horrified,” said a local villager.
Authorities have assured that the accused will be brought to justice soon.
