Muzaffarpur Resident Takes GI-Tagged Litchi Delights to Old Delhi Railway Station
MUZAFFARPUR – In a groundbreaking initiative, Krishna Gopal Singh, a resident of Ahiyapur in Muzaffarpur, has secured a one-month stall at Old Delhi Railway Station under the ‘One Station One Product’ scheme. The stall will exclusively showcase and sell litchi and its various products, offering Delhiites a unique opportunity to savor the flavors of this seasonal delight.
Beginning May 12, the stall will feature litchi juice, pulp, and other litchi-based products, eliminating the need for locals to search for these items elsewhere. Singh, who is the director of Agro and Dairy Private Limited and a litchi farmer, expressed his enthusiasm for bringing the taste of GI-tagged litchi products to Old Delhi for the first time.
Currently, the station is known for the sale of handloom and related products, making this upcoming venture a novel addition to the market. Following the litchi extravaganza, the stall will transition to selling Makhana and subsequently cosmetic items for the next month.
Speaking about the venture, Singh shared, “For the first time in Old Delhi, there will be an opportunity to display and sell products made from GI-tagged litchi.”
He added that during the litchi season, they plan to provide Delhiites with an abundance of litchis for two months, followed by the availability of litchi juice and pulp. The ambitious plan aims to sell one ton of litchi juice this season.
Anticipating high demand, Singh mentioned that orders for litchi juice have already started pouring in from various locations in Delhi. The litchis are sourced from places like Muzaffarpur, Patna, Darbhanga, and Samastipur, and are distributed to cities like Mumbai, Delhi, and Ahmedabad. In case of any transportation delays, litchis are expedited to Mumbai via cargo from Darbhanga airport.
