Muzaffarpur/ Patna: Muzaffarpur’s famed Shahi litchi — long celebrated for its flavour and heritage — is set to reach consumers across India faster than ever before, thanks to a new agreement with online delivery platform Blinkit.
At a meeting held on Wednesday at the National Litchi Research Centre’s guest house in Mushahari, Blinkit’s marketing head Sarthak Jain and Bihar Litchi Association president Bachha Prasad Singh finalised a plan to supply between 10 and 12 tonnes of litchi daily to major metropolitan cities. The move is expected to significantly increase market access and profit margins for the district’s litchi farmers and traders.
Singh said the agreement would ensure better prices and streamlined logistics for growers. “This collaboration means our farmers can directly supply fresh litchis from the orchards, and receive fairer prices without the middlemen,” he noted.
Blinkit, known for its rapid delivery service, aims to bring Muzaffarpur’s Shahi litchis to urban consumers within 30 minutes of placing an order. Company representatives assured that fresh produce would be prioritised under a time-sensitive delivery strategy.
A follow-up meeting is planned for May, when Blinkit is expected to set up procurement camps in the region to source litchi directly from local growers. The initiative will be coordinated through the Bihar Litchi Association to ensure efficient procurement and fair pricing.
Present at the meeting were Deepak Mishra, Director of Mohi Group, Sagar from Blinkit, and senior members of the Litchi Utpadak Sangh.
