Muzaffarpur: In an unexpected shift, Muzaffarpur has topped the list of districts in Bihar for the highest number of passports issued this year, overtaking traditional leaders like Siwan and Chhapra. According to data from the Post Office Passport Seva Kendra, Muzaffarpur issued 20,582 passports so far in 2025, with an average of 40 to 45 new applications processed daily.
Siwan, once a frontrunner in passport applications alongside Gopalganj and Chhapra, has slipped to second place with 10,162 passports issued. This marks a significant change in regional trends, as these western districts had historically seen the highest demand.
Bihar has 37 post office-based Passport Seva Kendras, in addition to two full-service regional offices in Patna and Darbhanga. Collectively, these centres have issued over 288,000 passports this year.
Applicants can typically receive their passports within one to ten days, depending on the speed of document verification. To accelerate processing, the regional office organises 10–15 special camps annually in high-demand districts. These camps assist individuals who have already applied online, ensuring quick paper verification and issuance.
