National Mathematics Day 2024 Celebrated in Patna with Award Ceremony for Top Students
Patna: National Mathematics Day 2024 was celebrated by the Bihar Council on Science and Technology at Samrat Ashok Convention Center, Patna, located in the Gyan Bhawan Campus. The event, organized under the Department of Science, Technology and Technical Education, was graced by the Minister of Science, Technology and Technical Education, Sumit Kumar Singh, who was the chief guest. Also present were Dr. Pratima, Secretary of the Department, Shri Udayan Mishra, Director-cum-Special Secretary, and Prof. SK Verma, Vice Chancellor of Bihar Engineering University.
The program began with the lighting of a lamp and the garlanding of the picture of the great mathematician Srinivas Ramanujan. Udayan Mishra welcomed all dignitaries, teachers, students, departmental officials, media representatives, and others present at the event. Dr. Anant Kumar, Project Director of the Bihar Council on Science and Technology, gave a presentation on the significance of National Mathematics Day.
A highlight of the event was the release of the departmental magazine by the dignitaries. Dr. Shubha Sinha, Special Officer of the Bihar Council on Science and Technology, and Mrs. Annu Priya, Assistant Director, conducted the program. A total of 553 students from class 6 to class 12, who secured the top positions at both the district and state levels through the Srinivas Ramanujan Talent Search Test in Mathematics-2024, were honored.
The students who secured the top three positions at the state level were awarded laptops, certificates, mementos, and medals. District-level winners received Rs. 5,000 for first place, Rs. 3,000 for second place, along with certificates and medals. All winning students also received Rs. 1,000 to assist with travel expenses to Patna.

In his address, the Minister congratulated the winners and encouraged them to continue excelling in Mathematics. He also shared that the state government is providing quality technical education at minimal cost through government engineering colleges and polytechnic institutes in all districts, reducing the need for students to go out of the state.
Dr. Pratima, the Departmental Secretary, congratulated the students and informed them about the “Pahal” program, which provides quality education in Science, Mathematics, and English to students around government engineering colleges and polytechnic institutes. Parents were urged to encourage their children to take full advantage of this opportunity.
The Vice Chancellor of Bihar Engineering University also addressed the students, motivating them for a bright future. The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Anant Kumar.
