New Alignment Finalized for Patna-Purnia Greenfield Expressway, Extending Route to 282 km

Patna: The alignment for the Patna-Purnia Greenfield Expressway has been finalised, with the route length now extended by 32 kilometres, bringing the total length to 282 2 kilometers. This six-lane expressway is designed to significantly improve connectivity in the Kosi and Seemanchal regions, starting from Dighwara on the Hajipur-Chhapra road (NH-31) and ending at Mathur Dagrua in Purnia.

The newly adjusted route will pass approximately 12 kilometres from Saharsa city, near South Sonvarsha Kachhari. The expressway will bypass Hajipur city, following an extended path from Dighwara. It will cross NH-322 between Sarangpur and Sarairanjan and pass through towns such as Dumari Buzurg, Patepur, and Jandaha. Further east, the route will pass through Purnia city and North Purnia Kasba, ultimately reaching Mathur Dagrua. The project is expected to reduce travel time from Patna to Purnia to just three to four hours.

Madhepura MP Dinesh Chandra Yadav highlighted the significance of the expressway, confirming that it will feature 17 high-level (HL) bridges and 11 railway over-bridges (ROBs). He emphasised that the expressway would be a key milestone for the development of the Kosi and Seemanchal regions, helping to connect previously remote areas and stimulate local economies.

In Saharsa, the expressway will enter at Kathdumar and proceed through Haripur-Mahakhad, Sonbarsa Kachhari (SH 95), and areas south of Rajanpur Baghwa. It will pass near villages such as Lagma Bhaptia and Khujhara, continuing eastward through Mangwar-Jamhara in Patarghat. The expressway will then cross multiple localities in Purnia district, including Barhara Kothi and Damaili, before reaching Gulabbag on NH-27 near Kishanganj.

This project is expected to be transformative for Bihar, promoting faster travel, improving access to major cities, and fostering regional development across multiple districts.
