Patna: Construction of National Highway 139W, a key segment of the Adalwari–Manikpur four-lane corridor under the Bharatmala Project, is progressing steadily with authorities intensifying efforts to remove encroachments in Vaishali district. Once completed, the new highway is expected to reduce the travel distance between Patna and Vaishali to just 40 kilometres, cutting journey time to nearly half an hour.
The district administration, under the leadership of the District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police, has so far cleared 92 structures—including residential buildings, sheds, and poultry farms—that were obstructing the NH-139W alignment in Vaishali. The demolition drive, which began on Friday, forms part of a larger campaign targeting over 200 such structures along the route.
NH-139W passes through Lalganj and Vaishali zones and is considered a critical connector for improving road infrastructure and regional mobility. Officials said that despite compensation already being disbursed to most affected landowners, reluctance to vacate acquired land persists. Notices were issued to such individuals prior to the clearance operation.
During a site inspection on Thursday, the District Magistrate directed residents in areas including Bhagwanpur, Munimchak, Keshavpur, Phijirpur, Manpura, Basad, Harpur Basant, and Chakramadat to vacate acquired properties without delay. The administration has also urged those yet to apply for compensation to do so promptly.
With the new alignment set to drastically shorten travel time and boost connectivity between Patna and north Bihar, authorities are expected to continue the clearance drive in full swing over the coming days.
