NHAI Issues Land Acquisition Notification for Patna-Purnia Expressway

Patna: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has officially issued a notification for land acquisition for the much-anticipated Patna-Purnia Expressway project. With this, the land acquisition process will now commence in six districts.
Announcing the development on Tuesday, Bihar’s Road Construction Minister Nitin Nabin reaffirmed the government’s commitment to completing the project within the stipulated timeline.
Land Acquisition Across 250+ Villages
As per the notification, land will be acquired in more than 250 villages spanning 29 blocks across six districts. The affected districts and their respective blocks include:
- Vaishali: 6 blocks
- Samastipur: 8 blocks
- Darbhanga: 2 blocks
- Saharsa: 5 blocks
- Madhepura: 2 blocks
- Purnia: 6 blocks
Key Features of the Expressway
The 281.95 km long Patna-Purnia Expressway will be a six-lane expressway built under greenfield alignment. It will begin at Mirnagar (Vaishali) on NH-22 and end at Chand Bhatti (Purnia) on NH-25, passing through Samastipur, Darbhanga, Saharsa, and Madhepura.
The project will involve the construction of:
- 21 major bridges
- 140 minor bridges
- 11 rail overbridges
- 21 interchanges
The total estimated cost of the project stands at ₹18,042.14 crore.
Reduced Travel Time Between Patna and Purnia
Upon completion, the new expressway will drastically reduce travel time between Patna and Purnia from the current seven hours to just three hours, enhancing connectivity and boosting economic activities in the region.
The land acquisition process marks a significant step toward the realization of this ambitious infrastructure project, which is expected to transform Bihar’s transportation network.
