NIA Raids Former JDU MLC Manorama Devi’s Residence in Gaya Over Alleged Naxal Links

Gaya: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted raids at five locations in Bihar, including the residence of former JDU MLC Manorama Devi in AP Colony, Gaya. The raids began early Thursday morning at 4 a.m., and no one has been allowed to enter or exit the house during the operation. Interrogations of individuals present in the house are ongoing as part of the investigation.

The NIA, with support from the local district police, launched this operation based on intelligence reports suggesting Naxal activity in the region. According to officials, the input originated from Aurangabad, leading to a police case being registered on August 7, 2023. Later, the NIA took over the investigation in September 2023, after it was revealed that white-collar individuals might be involved in supporting Naxal activities.

Manorama Devi’s late husband, Bindeshwari Yadav, who served as the District Council President, had a history of allegations regarding Naxal links. He was arrested in the past on charges of supplying cartridges to Naxalites, with hundreds of cartridges being recovered from his vehicle. A case of treason was also filed against him. Today’s NIA raids are believed to be part of efforts to uncover further connections to Naxal activities.

The former MLC and her family members are currently being questioned by NIA officials. This is not the first time Manorama Devi’s family has come under scrutiny. Her elder son, Rocky Yadav, was the main accused in a high-profile road rage shooting case, though he was later acquitted by the High Court due to a lack of evidence.

Sources indicate that a previous NIA raid in the Tekari police subdivision area had led to the interrogation of two individuals. During questioning, those individuals reportedly named JDU leader Manorama Devi as having ties to Naxal elements. Their Naxal connections were confirmed during the investigation, and the NIA had summoned them to Delhi for further questioning.

The agency is yet to release an official statement regarding the findings from the ongoing raids.
