Patna: Staff and faculty at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) in Patna laid out their mats before dawn on Saturday to mark the UN‑designated International Day of Yoga, adopting this year’s theme, ‘Yoga for one earth, one health’.
The session was led by the yoga teacher Dr Ashwani Kumar and overseen by the institute’s director, Col Rahul Sharma, an advocate of daily practice. Participants moved through a 45‑minute sequence of Asanas, Pranayama and Meditation before Sharma urged colleagues to integrate yoga into their routines, calling it ‘an investment in physical stamina, mental clarity and environmental consciousness’.
Sharma said the practice chimed with the institute’s creative ethos. ‘Balance, flexibility and mindfulness are as essential in design as they are on the mat,’ he told the gathering. Kumar added that steady practice helped students ‘create with calmer minds’.
The programme formed part of a nationwide series of events marking the UN day, which has been celebrated Worldwide each June 21 since 2015. NIFT Patna said the morning class underlined its commitment to a broader curriculum. ‘Fashion education is not only about clothes,’ Sharma said. ‘It is about producing rounded individuals who understand their bodies, their communities and their planet.’
