Bihar CM Nitish Kumar’s Son Backs Centre’s Caste Census Move, Calls It ‘Excellent Decision’

Patna: Nishant Kumar, the son of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, has welcomed Narendra Modi government’s decision to conduct a caste census, calling it an “excellent” move that reflects the longstanding demand of the Janata Dal (United).

Speaking to the media, Nishant said his father had supported the caste census from the outset and had ensured the proposal was passed by the Bihar cabinet in 2022. “This is a good decision by the central government. Father has always been in favour of it,” he said.

The caste census announcement by the Centre has drawn praise from all constituents of Bihar’s ruling NDA alliance, including JD(U), BJP, LJP (Ram Vilas), HAM- Secular (Jitan Ram Manjhi), and Rashtriya Lok Morcha (Upendra Kushwaha). The opposition parties, comprising the RJD, Congress, Left and the Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP), have also welcomed the move, branding it a political and social victory for the Grand Alliance.

Amid recent speculation over NDA’s chief ministerial face for the 2025 assembly elections, Nishant Kumar reiterated that there was no ambiguity within the alliance. “Papa will be the next Chief Minister. Amit Shah has made it clear—Nitish Kumar will lead the NDA in 2025,” he said, adding confidently that the NDA would win at least 225 seats in the election.

Responding to rumours regarding the 73-year-old Chief Minister’s health, Nishant dismissed concerns. “His health is 100% fine. He is fully active and dedicated to Bihar’s development,” he said.

Nishant urged voters to support the NDA with a stronger mandate than in 2010, when the alliance secured a record majority in the state assembly. “Bihar is progressing steadily under Nitish Kumar’s leadership. We appeal to the people to ensure a bigger victory in 2025,” he added.
