Patna: Authorities have imposed an overnight curfew along the India–Nepal border from 8pm to 8am for a period of two months as part of a sweeping security operation across Bihar’s 729km-long international boundary.
The move comes amid concerns over possible infiltration attempts by operatives linked to Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). Surveillance has been intensified at key crossing points including Valmikinagar in Bagaha, Raxaul in East Champaran, Bairgania and Bhitthamod in Sitamarhi, as well as Jayanagar, Madhavapur and Laukaha in Madhubani district.
Day-and-night patrolling has also been launched across the border regions of Araria and Kishanganj. According to officials, leaves of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) personnel have been cancelled to ensure an uninterrupted security presence. Additional forces have been deployed in sensitive zones such as Thakurganj, Galgalia, Dighalbank and Tedhagach in Kishanganj.
A multi-layered verification process is in place within 15km of the border, with SSB jawans and district police conducting rigorous checks including Aadhaar card verification, fingerprint matching, and retina scans of individuals deemed suspicious.
Kishanganj district magistrate Vishal Raj and superintendent of police Sagar Kumar held a joint strategy session with the Border Security Force (BSF) deputy inspector general at the Khagra Sector Headquarters, focusing on coordinated operations and intelligence-sharing.
Officials say the India–Nepal border has historically posed challenges due to its open nature. Over the past 19 years, 12 individuals with suspected terror links have been apprehended along this stretch.
