Opposition Ruckus Over KK Pathak Issue Rocks Bihar Assembly

Patna: The Bihar Legislative Assembly witnessed tumultuous scenes on Wednesday during the sixth day of the budget session, as the opposition launched a vociferous protest concerning the controversy surrounding KK Pathak. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar found himself embroiled in a heated confrontation with the entire opposition bloc over Pathak’s tenure, staunchly defending him as an upright officer.

Amidst the charged atmosphere, Nitish passionately defended Pathak, asserting his integrity and competence, stating, “Whatever he is doing, he is doing it right. They don’t listen to anyone. Do your work honestly.” The Chief Minister’s unwavering support for Pathak came amidst lingering discontent over the implementation of proposed changes to school timings.

The previous day, Nitish had proposed a revision of school timings from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. However, despite his directive, the opposition vehemently opposed the move, triggering Nitish’s staunch defense of KK Pathak during Wednesday’s session.

As Nitish addressed the Assembly, opposition leaders interjected with critical remarks, prompting the Chief Minister to challenge their electoral prospects, declaring, “If you want to win then do it. You will not be able to win even a single seat this time.”

In a bid to address the concerns raised by opposition parties and stakeholders, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Vijay Choudhary emphasized the challenges faced by teachers and students when schools operate from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Echoing similar sentiments, representatives of the teachers’ union outside the Assembly had advocated for revised school timings.

In response to the mounting controversy, CM Nitish announced within the Assembly premises that classes would adhere to the proposed timing of 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, with teachers required to report 15 minutes earlier at 9:45 am and concluding their duties by 4:15 pm.

Meanwhile, amidst the uproar within the Assembly, Deputy Speaker Maheshwar Hazari tendered his resignation from the post. A formal notification issued by the Legislative Assembly indicated that Hazari might be appointed as a minister in the upcoming reshuffle. Opposition MLAs resorted to protests within the well of the House, while BJP legislators demanded an apology.

The proceedings of the House have been adjourned until 11:00 am tomorrow, as the political turmoil continues to grip the Bihar Legislative Assembly.
