Orange Alert for Dense Fog in 29 Bihar Districts: No Relief Expected for Three Days

Patna: Bihar continues to face a cold wave, with dense fog enveloping areas such as Patna, Madhepura, Nalanda, and Motihari on Monday morning. Westerly winds have further intensified the chill, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a dense fog alert for 29 districts.

According to the IMD, strong winds are likely to sweep across the south-western districts, including Khagaria, Madhepura, Purnia, Katihar, and Banka, as well as south-central areas such as Nalanda, Sheikhpura, Jamui, and Munger. While the sun is expected to break through during the day, the minimum temperature across most districts is forecast to hover between 8°C and 12°C.

Meteorologist Kumar Gaurav has predicted light fog in many districts over the next three days, with no significant relief from the cold expected. However, a slight rise in minimum temperatures—by 2°C to 4°C—may occur after January 24.

In Patna, dense fog is likely to persist through the morning, but clearer skies are expected as the day progresses, providing some respite from the chill. The maximum temperature in the capital is projected to range between 20°C and 24°C, while the minimum may settle between 10°C and 14°C.

The cold conditions have led to continued disruptions in daily life, with visibility issues affecting transport in many parts of the state.
