Patna: A wave of anger is building in Patna following allegations of police negligence in the aftermath of a brutal sexual assault on a two-year-old girl. The child is reported to be in critical condition after being discovered by her parents soaked in blood at their home near the Bairia bus stand on Monday night.
According to local reports, the young girl was sleeping in a hut when a 50-year-old neighbour allegedly took her away. Her parents were alerted by the child’s screams and rushed to find her in a horrific state.
While the Gopalpur Station House Officer (SHO) Chandan Kumar confirmed the incident occurred on the border of the Agamkuan and Gopalpur police station jurisdictions, the response of the Agamkuan police is now under intense scrutiny. It is alleged that officers from the station arrived at the scene but then left the accused man, stating that the case did not fall under their purview.
“The police of Agamkuan police station left the accused at the spot and left,” SHO Chandan Kumar reportedly stated. This alleged inaction allowed the accused to flee before any formal arrest was made.
Patna City Superintendent of Police (SDPO) Atulit Jha has confirmed that the victim has been admitted to hospital for urgent medical treatment. He stated that raids are currently underway to apprehend the accused.
However, the initial response of the Agamkuan police has sparked widespread condemnation. Sources claim that upon arriving at the scene, officers allegedly kicked the accused but dismissed the case, saying, “this is not a matter of our police station area,” before leaving the scene, allowing the alleged perpetrator to escape.
The apparent dereliction of duty by the police has ignited public fury, with many questioning how such a serious crime could be handled with such alleged indifference. Calls for accountability and a thorough investigation into the police’s actions are expected to grow.
The condition of the young victim remains a primary concern, and the focus now is on ensuring she receives the best possible medical care while authorities face mounting pressure to swiftly arrest the accused and address the serious allegations of police misconduct.
