Patliputra University VC Accused of Threatening Registrar, Complaint Filed in Patna

Patna: A serious dispute has emerged between Patliputra University’s acting Vice Chancellor Sharad Yadav and Registrar NK Jha, leading to a police complaint and intervention from Raj Bhavan and the education department. The registrar has alleged that he was threatened and pressured to sign documents late at night. The complaint has been lodged at Bahadurpur police station.
According to NK Jha, four individuals arrived at his residence around midnight on March 29-30 in the Vice Chancellor’s escort vehicle. He claimed that the group, which included two security guards and two university officials, was intoxicated and attempted to force him to sign files. Fortunately, Jha was not at home at the time. He later informed Raj Bhavan and the education department about the incident, expressing concerns for his safety.
The police have acknowledged receiving the complaint, and an officer confirmed that all four individuals would be questioned. Meanwhile, acting VC Sharad Yadav defended the visit, stating that the officials had gone to the registrar’s house to obtain his signature on the proceedings of a syndicate meeting held on March 29. He explained that the registrar left immediately after the meeting and could not be reached by phone, prompting the officials to visit his residence.
However, Jha dismissed the VC’s explanation, stating that the meeting ended at 6:30 pm, after which he remained in his office for an hour. He claimed that there was no urgency at that time, but at 10 pm, the VC suddenly called him, demanding he come to the office within five minutes. Jha refused, citing a visit to a sick relative. He believes that if he had been home that night, the situation could have turned dangerous. The matter remains under investigation.
