Patna Administration Prioritizes Traffic Management with High-Tech Solutions

Patna: Patna Divisional Commissioner Mayank Warwade emphasized that efficient traffic management is a top priority for the administration, urging all officials to stay alert, committed, and proactive. Speaking at a review meeting on urban traffic management held at the Commissioner’s office on Monday, he outlined a strategy focused on inter-departmental coordination, technology-driven solutions, and a zero-tolerance approach toward encroachments and traffic violations.

High-Level Meeting on Urban Traffic Challenges

The meeting was attended by senior officials, including Inspector General of Police, Central Zone, Garima Malik; District Magistrate, Chandrashekhar Singh; Municipal Commissioner, Animesh Kumar Parashar; Superintendent of Police (Traffic), Aparajit Lohan; and representatives from various civic and law enforcement bodies. Discussions covered key traffic hotspots such as Nehru Path, Saguna Mor, Ashok Rajpath, and Boring Road, along with parking zones, vending zones, and the Patna Metro route.

Warwade stressed the importance of a smooth traffic system, noting its impact on quality of life and economic activity. He directed officials to strengthen surveillance using CCTV cameras and to conduct special anti-encroachment drives with clear public communication and monitoring through drones.

Smart City Integration and Surveillance Expansion

Patna Smart City Limited was commended for its role in traffic management, with more than 3,300 CCTV cameras installed at 415 locations across the city. These include 2,602 general surveillance cameras, 473 red light violation detection (RLVD) cameras, and 150 automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras. Public announcements are also being made at 69 locations.

The Commissioner called for the effective utilization of the Integrated Traffic Management System (ITMS), which includes speed violation detection, adaptive traffic control systems, and environmental sensors. He directed officials to ensure all high-tech traffic tools, including emergency call boxes (ECB) and variable message boards (VMB), remain operational.

Anti-Encroachment Drives and Legal Action

District Magistrate Chandrashekhar Singh reported that regular anti-encroachment actions are being taken, with fines levied and FIRs registered against violators. Warwade instructed the municipal corporation and police to collaborate on removing encroachments, with public notices issued and videography conducted to document the process. Legal measures will be enforced against those obstructing the campaign.

Traffic Safety and Public Awareness

To address rising vehicle numbers and congestion, the Commissioner emphasized public safety measures, including stricter checks against underage driving, vehicles without permits, and those with tinted windows. These actions, he said, aim to create a culture of compliance and set an example for the community.

Towards a Safer, Smarter Patna

Warwade highlighted the role of technology in improving traffic management and public safety, noting that a robust system of surveillance and citizen-centric services can transform urban life. He stated, “Patna is the gateway to eastern India, and excellent traffic management will drive economic growth, improve safety, and enhance quality of life.”

The administration is now focused on long-term traffic solutions, including one-way systems, foot overbridges, and smart parking zones, ensuring a seamless experience for residents and visitors alike.
