Patna to Install ANPR Cameras at 50 Locations in Major Crime Crackdown

Patna: In a move aimed at tightening security and improving surveillance, authorities in Patna will install Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras at 50 strategic locations across the city. The initiative, set to be completed by August 1, was finalised during a high-level meeting chaired by District Magistrate Dr Tyagarajan SM at the Collectorate on Monday.

The ANPR system will automatically scan and record vehicle number plates, aiding police in tracking criminal activity and enforcing traffic laws more efficiently. Alongside this, the city will also see the deployment of fibre check posts and over 1,000 iron security trolleys for vehicle inspection.

The road construction agency has been tasked with setting up both the cameras and the check posts, while the Mining Department will supply the trolleys.

Senior Superintendent of Police Kartikeya Sharma, City SP Central Diksha, and Additional Collector (Law and Order) Rajesh Roshan were among the officials present at the meeting.

High-surveillance zones identified

Key locations earmarked for ANPR cameras include Malahi Pakadi, Kankarbagh (90 Feet Road), both ends of the Parsa flyover, Kurthaul turn, Mahendru Post Office, JP Setu, Marine Drive Didarganj, Kachchi Dargah, Nala Road, Army Cantt, Danapur, Saguna turn, and Bailey Road Overbridge, among others.

27 entry points to get fibre check posts

In addition, 27 major entry points to the city will be equipped with fibre check posts functioning as mini-police barracks. These include Didarganj Raghopur Bridge, Karamli Chak, Pahari More, Bhootnath Road, Khemnichak, Chanakya Law College, Saristabad, AIIMS Golambar, R Block, Gandhi Setu South Bank, and Digha Golambar.
