Patna: The Patna-Ara-Sasaram four-lane Greenfield and Brownfield project has received the green light, marking a significant step towards modernizing Bihar’s infrastructure. With the project set to begin construction soon, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s vision of a prosperous and well-connected Bihar moves closer to reality.

A Game-Changer for Bihar’s Road Network

Spanning 110 km, the Rs 3,712 crore project will provide seamless connectivity between Patna and Sasaram. The road will directly link Jayaprakash Narayan International Airport (Patna) and Bihta Airport, along with the four major railway stations of Sasaram, Ara, Danapur, and Patna. Additionally, the new corridor will connect multiple cities to Patna’s inland water terminal at Gai ghat, enhancing waterway-based cargo transport.

Once integrated with Patna’s Ring Road, the project is expected to significantly ease movement of people and goods across Bihar. It will also create a vital link between Lucknow, Patna, Ranchi, and Varanasi, reducing travel time and boosting economic activity in the region.

Economic Impact and Employment Generation

The road, being developed under the Atmanirbhar Bharat Yojana, is expected to create 48 lakh man-days of employment. Improved connectivity will spur industrial growth, attract investments, and generate new job opportunities. The project will also contribute to infrastructure development across Patna and its surrounding areas, further accelerating the state’s socio-economic progress.

Enhanced Transport Network and Traffic Relief

The project will integrate key national highways—NH-19, NH-319, NH-922, NH-131G, and NH-130—creating a robust transportation network for smoother freight movement. Additionally, it will enhance connectivity between Aurangabad, Kaimur, and Patna.

Currently, State Highways 2, 12, 81, and 102 serve as the primary routes between Sasaram, Ara, and Patna, but severe congestion in Ara often causes delays of up to 3-4 hours. As part of the new plan, a 10.6 km bypass will be constructed to divert traffic away from densely populated areas such as Ara, Grahani, Piro, Bikramganj, Mokar, and Sasaram, offering a faster and congestion-free travel alternative.
