Patna DM and SSP Inspect Patna Junction to Oversee Preparations for Handling Kumbh Rush

Patna: District Magistrate, Dr. Chandrashekhar Singh, and Senior Superintendent of Police, Avkash Kumar, conducted an inspection of Patna Railway Junction this evening to review security measures, crowd control strategies, and law and order arrangements for the ongoing Maha Kumbh at Prayagraj. The officials also sought feedback from passengers to ensure their safety during the event.
Dr. Singh, during the inspection of platforms 1 to 8 at Patna Junction, assured that the situation was normal and instructed officials to ensure smooth passenger entry and exit. Speaking to the media, he emphasized the importance of vigilance, urging the general public to be cautious and consider waiting a few days before traveling to the Kumbh Mela due to the current high volume of crowds.
In response to the anticipated surge in passengers, the District Magistrate confirmed that the Patna District Administration, following a request from East Central Railway, Danapur, has deployed Magistrates and Police Officers at key stations including Patna Junction, Rajendra Nagar Terminal, and Danapur Railway Station. A total of 24 officers will be on duty in three shifts until the end of the fair, ensuring the security of passengers, managing crowds, and maintaining law and order.
The administration has also put in place a robust communication system, with officials in constant touch with senior railway personnel to ensure seamless coordination. Dr. Singh mentioned that the railway authorities are providing all necessary passenger facilities, including adequate lighting and drinking water in holding areas, and will broadcast train movement updates through station announcement systems.
To manage the crowd effectively, railway authorities will restrict platform access to passengers after ticket checks at the main station gates. Special trains will be prioritized to accommodate the surge in travelers, ensuring smoother movement on platforms.
For added security, the District Administration has appointed the Additional District Magistrate (Law and Order) and Superintendent of Police (Law and Order) as nodal officers, tasked with liaising with railway officials to address passenger concerns.
Patna Civil Surgeon has been instructed to keep medical teams on standby with life-saving medications and ambulances in case of emergencies. In addition, City Executive Officers have been directed to ensure railway station areas remain free of encroachments, while Sub-divisional Officers and Police Officers will conduct regular visits to monitor law and order.
In a proactive step, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) has been deployed at Patna Junction, Rajendra Nagar Terminal, and Danapur Railway Station to handle any emergencies. The District Administration has also activated a 24-hour control room, where residents and travelers can call for assistance or information at 0612-2219810, 0612-2219234, or dial 112.
