Patna: Patna is set to witness a spectacular aerial display for the first time as the Indian Air Force’s Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team will perform a grand air show over the Ganga on April 23, Shaurya Diwas. District Magistrate Dr Chandrashekhar Singh reviewed the detailed administrative preparations on Thursday, calling the event a matter of immense pride for the city, Bihar, and all Biharis.
The hour-long show will feature nine Hawk-132 jet aircraft performing aerial stunts above the iconic JP Ganga Path, with the venue situated along the banks of the Ganga near Sabhyata Dwar. Officials are working at a rapid pace to ensure crowd management, security protocols, and logistical arrangements are in place well ahead of the event.
“This will be an unforgettable moment for all of us,” said Singh, who also confirmed that the Surya Kiran team will arrive in Patna on April 21, followed by a full-dress rehearsal on April 22. The show on April 23 is designated a state-level event, and all preparations are being undertaken in coordination with the Cabinet Secretariat Department, the Indian Air Force, and the Airport Authority of India.
To inspire and engage the youth, April 22 has been specially dedicated to students from schools and colleges. The air show aims to spark interest in the Indian Air Force and offer students a close-up experience of its discipline, precision, and career opportunities.
The district administration is deploying extensive resources for the event. Deputy Development Commissioner-led cells are overseeing various logistics, while the District Education Officer has been directed to widely publicise the event in educational institutions.
Anticipating a large public turnout, Singh has ordered the deployment of magistrates and police for crowd control, traffic regulation, and law and order maintenance. Temporary control rooms, mobile hospitals, and fire services will also be set up on-site. Arrangements include water tankers, mobile water ATMs, and temporary toilets, including pink toilets for women.
The Civil Surgeon has been tasked with alerting nearby hospitals and deploying ambulances and ORS services, while SDRF, NDRF, and Civil Defence teams will remain on standby. Additionally, private boat operations from JP Setu to Gandhi Setu will be suspended during the event to ensure public safety.
