Patna: Nitin Nabin, Bihar’s Minister for Urban Development and Housing, conducted an inspection of the Priority Corridor of the Patna Metro, offering critical guidelines to officials from the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). Joint Secretary of the department, Varsha Singh, accompanied him during the visit.

Speaking after the inspection, Nabin expressed satisfaction with the progress, stating that construction work on the Priority Corridor, spanning from Malahi Pakadi to New ISBT, is nearing completion. “Civil work on the corridor is almost finished. Track laying and train set procurement are underway, with electrical and telecom signaling work to follow soon,” he said.

The minister confirmed that the government is targeting August 2025 to begin metro services, which will significantly benefit Patna residents.

Fast-tracking metro connectivity

The Priority Corridor, a 6.5 km elevated stretch, includes five metro stations: Malahi Pakadi, Khemnichak, Bhootnath, Zeromile, and New ISBT. Once operational, the metro will reduce travel time between Malahi Pakadi and Bairia Bus Stand to just 15 minutes. Nabin emphasized that the metro will not only ease traffic congestion but also improve connectivity across the city.

The minister also inspected the Patna Metro Depot near Bairia Bus Stand. Describing it as the “heart of the entire Patna Metro,” he detailed its pivotal role in operations. The depot will handle functions ranging from dismantling and maintenance to control and management.

“The depot will house the control and management systems, a training center, and security operations. A test track will also be constructed here to facilitate metro trial runs,” Nabin explained, adding that the administrative building will centralize operations for efficient management.

The Patna Metro project is set to transform urban mobility in the state capital, providing a faster and more sustainable transport option for its growing population.
