Patna Municipal Corporation Holds Pre-Monsoon Drainage Meeting With BUIDCo

Patna: The Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) held an inter-departmental meeting with the Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (BUIDCo) to review preparations for the upcoming monsoon. The meeting, chaired by Municipal Commissioner Animesh Kumar Parashar, who also serves as Managing Director of BUIDCo, focused on issues related to drain cleaning, construction of new drains, encroachment, and drainage obstructions.
Parashar directed officials to formulate both short- and long-term plans in coordination with BUDCO and PMC to address these concerns. A follow-up meeting with other departments is scheduled for February 28, with instructions to resolve existing drainage problems before the monsoon season.
Drain cleaning efforts are underway across the city to prevent waterlogging. The municipal commissioner also instructed BUIDCo officials to identify and resolve obstructions caused by ongoing construction projects under various agencies, including Namami Gange and GAIL.
PMC has conducted a zonal assessment, identifying 61 critical drainage issues across Nutan Rajdhani, Kankarbagh, Pataliputra, Azimabad, and Patna City zones. The identified issues include 42 cases of broken or new drain construction under BUIDCo and 19 cases of road damage requiring repair under Namami Gange.
To ensure efficient resolution, PMC’s executive officers and engineers will conduct joint inspections with the concerned departments. A dedicated WhatsApp group has also been set up to monitor progress, where officials are required to provide daily updates, including reports and images of ongoing work.
Senior officials from PMC and BUIDCo attended the meeting, reiterating their commitment to completing drainage preparations ahead of the monsoon.
