Patna Prepares for Monsoon: PMC to Conduct Mock Drill on May 26
Patna: Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) has announced a comprehensive mock drill scheduled for May 26, aimed at evaluating the city’s cleaning and drainage systems. The exercise will take place from 11 pm to 2 am, focusing on the performance of sump house workers and the effectiveness of real-time monitoring.
Ahead of the monsoon season, PMC has completed preliminary work on the city’s drainage and cleaning systems. Ongoing assessments are being conducted to address ground-level drainage issues, ensure the quality of the drainage infrastructure, and review technical aspects.
During the mock drill, particular attention will be paid to the sump houses across all zones. This includes thorough inspections of the inlet and outlet points, as well as the cleanliness of manholes, catchpits, gratings, and connecting drains. The Quick Response Team (QRT), active during the monsoon, will be deployed starting June 15. This team is responsible for promptly addressing drainage issues as soon as rainfall begins.
Effective drainage, especially in the lower parts of the city, relies heavily on the use of pumps. PMC has instructed relevant departments to ensure all pumps are operational, operators are assigned, and pipes are prepared for immediate use.
The mock drill will also review the deployment and functionality of cleaning and drainage resources. This includes verifying the performance of road-sweeping machines, the presence and adherence to standards by cleaning workers, and the availability of necessary equipment. To ensure comprehensive preparedness, zonal officers of the QRT and officials at the DPS level will remain on high alert throughout the drill.
