Patna SSP Orders Citywide Crackdown, Deploys 124 Quick Response Teams

Patna SSP directs Quick Response Team to question suspicious individuals and intensify night patrols in apartments and mohallas.

Patna: In a sweeping new initiative aimed at tackling the surge in criminal activity, Patna Police have deployed round-the-clock mobile patrol teams across the city’s 31 police station jurisdictions, authorities confirmed on Thursday.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Avkash Kumar announced the formation of 124 Quick Mobile Teams, which will operate 24/7 in an effort to enhance security and law enforcement presence. These teams have been directed to maintain high visibility in areas deemed sensitive, including banks, petrol stations and jewellery shops. “The aim is to maintain law and order and curb criminal activities by ensuring an active police presence on the ground at all hours,” SSP Kumar said.
Each police station has been allocated four motorcycles, with two officers—an inspector and a constable—assigned per vehicle. The initiative is being modelled on the Dial 112 emergency response system, and every vehicle will be equipped with GPS and wireless communication devices.
The Quick Response Teams (QRTs) will function in four shifts: 5am–9am, 9am–1pm, 4pm–10pm, and 10pm–4am, providing continuous coverage throughout the day and night. Officers have also been instructed to carry images and contact details of known criminals on their mobile phones to enable swift identification and verification of suspicious individuals.

Senior officers take to the streets
In a parallel crackdown, a high-profile late-night vehicle checking drive was conducted on Thursday under the leadership of Director General of Police (DGP) Vinay Kumar. Accompanied by Patna Inspector General Garima Malik, SSP Avkash Kumar, City SP Central Sweety Sehrawat, and SDPO Law and Order Nitish Chandra Dhariya, officers stopped vehicles across the city as part of an intensified security sweep.
During the operation, which ran from 8pm to midnight, a young man was detained for possession of a bottle of liquor-a violation of Bihar’s strict prohibition laws.
According to officials, the campaign will continue on a nightly basis, with the aim of deterring unlawful activity and reinforcing public safety.
“This drive is part of an ongoing strategy to ensure rule of law and deter anti-social elements. We will take strict action against anyone found engaging in illegal activities,” SSP Kumar stated.
The stepped-up efforts reflect growing concern over rising crime rates in the state capital, and signal a more assertive posture by law enforcement agencies in Bihar.
