During investigation, two accused – Chandan Kumar and Ranjan Kumar, both residents of Majhauli – were arrested. A country-made pistol was recovered from them.
Police said Ramnarayan was attacked with the weapon in an apparent attempt to kill him due to an old enmity with Chandan and Ranjan Kumar. His life was saved by people nearby who intervened. Further investigation revealed Chandan Kumar has a previous case registered against him under the POCSO Act.
