Patna: Two Congenital Heart Holes Closed in Two-and-a-Half-Year-Old Through Rare Binocular Method
PATNA – Mahavir Vatsalya Hospital achieved a medical milestone by successfully closing two congenital heart holes in a two-and-a-half-year-old child using a rare binocular method. Following the groundbreaking operation, the child was discharged within 24 hours.
The medical team, led by Dr. Major Prabhat Kumar, a pediatric cardiologist at Mahavir Vatsalya Hospital, accomplished this feat, marking the first instance in Bihar where a child of such a young age was treated by simultaneously closing two heart holes.
Saurabh Kumar, a resident of Jandaha in Vaishali district, was admitted to Mahavir Vatsalya Hospital on Thursday morning. By Thursday evening, both ASD and PDA, the two heart holes, were closed using the telescopic method. Dr. Prabhat explained that the child, due to congenital heart holes, struggled to gain weight, with his weight at a mere 10 kg at the age of two and a half, coupled with anemia.
The child’s family had sought treatment at various places across the country before reaching out to Dr. Prabhat at Mahavir Vatsalya Hospital. The successful operation, carried out free of cost through the Chief Minister’s Medical Fund, brought relief to the child’s health. Dr. Prabhat collaborated with a dedicated team, including Dr. Nalin Vilochan, Technician Chandan, Sister Rakhi, Monica, and others, to execute this rare procedure.
