Patna Women’s College Hosts Thought-Provoking Review of Dostoevsky’s White Nights

Patna: In a celebration of literary exploration and intellectual dialogue, Patna Women’s College, hosted a book review session in collaboration with The Kitab Club at Carmel Hall. The focus of the session was Fyodor Dostoevsky’s White Nights, a poignant Russian novella delving into themes of solitude, longing, and the transient nature of human connection.

The review was led by Vaidehi Anand, a fourth-semester student from the Department of Philosophy, who brought a deeply reflective and emotionally resonant perspective to the text. Her analysis captured the nuanced melancholy of Dostoevsky’s narrative, offering the audience a glimpse into both the author’s early life and the universal emotions embedded in his work.

Adding an engaging layer to the discussion, guest expert Dr Vinita Priyadarshi, Head of the Department of Political Science, presented a contrasting interpretation. Her thought-provoking insights sparked an animated discussion, highlighting the enduring relevance and interpretive richness of Dostoevsky’s writing. The dialogue between differing perspectives drew the audience into a dynamic exchange of ideas, further deepening the collective understanding of the novella.

The session was moderated by Palak, a fourth-semester student from the Department of History, and concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by her classmate, Prerna.

With active audience participation and rich literary discourse, the event proved to be a resounding success. It offered students and faculty alike a meaningful opportunity to engage with classic literature in a way that was both intellectually stimulating and emotionally evocative.
