Patna’s IGIMS to Introduce Biplane Cath Lab for Heart and Brain Disease Checkups
Patna: A new lab is being set up at the Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS) in Patna, where heart and brain diseases will be diagnosed simultaneously, offering relief to thousands of patients who previously had to travel to cities like Delhi or Mumbai for checkups. According to Dr. Manish Mandal, Medical Superintendent of IGIMS, the lab will soon be operational, providing a cutting-edge facility for patients across Bihar.
This will be the first hi-tech biplane cath lab in Bihar, capable of performing complex tests like angiography, angioplasty, and pacemaker procedures for both the heart and brain. The advanced machine, worth over Rs 10 crore, will also aid in the diagnosis of brain tumors, hemorrhages, and blood clots, allowing for more precise and timely treatment.
Dr. Ravi Vishnu, head of the cardiology department, explained that the biplane cath lab is designed to reduce the risk of radiation exposure for both patients and doctors while providing clearer images for accurate diagnosis. The machine’s two-sided scanning technology will also speed up the investigation process, ensuring faster treatment for critical conditions.
The introduction of this facility will not only ease the financial burden on patients by eliminating the need for out-of-state travel but will also streamline the treatment process for complex heart and brain issues, making specialized healthcare more accessible within Bihar.
