Patna: Physical education teachers gathered outside the Janata Dal (United) office in Patna today to protest against low salaries and the lack of permanent appointments. The teachers, united in their demands, surrounded Education Minister Sunil Kumar and attempted to block his car, leading to a tense situation that required police intervention.
The protesters raised slogans demanding a salary hike and permanent employment, claiming they have been working for years on meagre pay while performing duties similar to regular teachers. Despite repeated government assurances in the past, the teachers say their demands remain unfulfilled.
Education Minister Sunil Kumar met the protesters at the site and assured them that their demands would be seriously considered and that the government would make a decision soon. Following his assurance, the agitation subsided. However, the teachers warned that if concrete action is not taken promptly, they would resume their protests.
The physical education teachers have a history of protesting for their rights and have faced police action including lathi charges in previous demonstrations. Today’s protest underscores their growing frustration and determination to secure better pay and permanent status.
