Madhubani/ Patna: Bihar’s power sector received a major boost on Thursday as Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for energy infrastructure projects worth Rs 6,204.65 crore, signalling a significant step towards achieving uninterrupted electricity supply across the state.

The announcement was made during the Prime Minister’s visit to Lohana in Madhubani, where he launched the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) with an investment of Rs 5,030.74 crore aimed at strengthening and modernising Bihar’s power distribution system. The scheme, a joint initiative between the Centre and the Bihar government, is expected to enhance the quality and reliability of electricity for both urban and rural consumers.

In addition, PM Modi laid the foundation for Rs 1,173.91 crore worth of projects focused on rural electrification in 62 villages, the construction of 59 new power substations, and the upgradation of Patna’s power distribution network.

Speaking at the event, Bihar Energy Minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav described the day as “historic” in Bihar’s energy journey. “With the guidance of the Prime Minister and support of the Centre, we are committed to ensuring reliable electricity to every home in Bihar,” he said, affirming that the schemes would be completed within the stipulated timeframe.

Among the dignitaries present at the launch were Governor Arif Mohammad Khan, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Union Panchayati Raj Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh, and Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha.

The projects are expected to play a critical role in powering Bihar’s economic growth, improving services to households and industries, and contributing to the broader goal of sustainable development.
