Patna: In a pioneering move to foster a cleaner and more sustainable city, the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) is spearheading the ‘Chakachak Patna’ campaign. At the forefront of this initiative is the establishment of a unique school of cleanliness in Amrit Park, ward number – 34, under the Circular Waste Solutions Project, led by the German organization GIZ in collaboration with the Mitigation Action Facility, the European Union, and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Change.
Set to commence in January next year, the school aims to educate citizens on essential aspects of waste management, promoting source separation of waste, composting of wet waste, Material Recovery Facility (MRF) practices, and fostering a sustainable lifestyle. This educational endeavor is designed to raise awareness among individuals frequenting the park, utilizing innovative butterfly and mushroom-shaped chairs and benches crafted from recycled materials.
The Circular Waste Solutions Project is working closely with the community, with the Pink Material Recovery Facility standing as a testament to the PMC’s commitment to inclusive waste management. This facility offers a platform for residents to actively participate by selling their household solid waste at the Pink Centre, contributing to a circular economy.
To ensure widespread knowledge dissemination, the Municipal Corporation School will conduct daily sessions on solid-wet waste management, open to people of all ages, including children and youth. The school, generously hosted in Amrit Park, Kankarbagh, will serve as an open learning center, fostering a sense of environmental responsibility within the community.
Citizens engaging in morning walks within Amrit Park will receive practical training from the corporation’s dedicated team at the cleanliness school. Demonstrations on transforming household plastic, metal, and other solid dry waste into useful items will be a key focus, utilizing models of mushroom, butterfly, ladybug, and sitting benches created from recycled materials.
Furthermore, the initiative extends its reach to schools and colleges, inviting students to actively participate in the waste management awareness program. The models created during these educational sessions will find a new home at the Pink Material Recovery Facility Center near Amrit Park, showcasing the tangible benefits of separating wet and dry waste.
As Patna takes bold steps toward a greener future, the ‘Chakachak Patna’ campaign sets an exemplary standard for waste management education, community engagement, and sustainable living practices. The Circular Waste Solutions Project, backed by international collaboration, marks a significant stride toward building a more environmentally conscious and responsible city.
