Kaimur:  A joint operation by Bihar’s Special Task Force (STF), Kaimur district police and Nalanda police has led to the seizure of 3,730 live cartridges and the arrest of two alleged arms smugglers. The bust took place late Saturday night following a tip-off, Kaimur Superintendent of Police Hari Mohan Shukla confirmed during a press conference on Sunday.

The cartridges — which were being transported in a white car from Uttar Pradesh to Bihar Sharif — were discovered during a search at a check post near the Bihar–UP border. Officers recovered 2,950 brass-coloured 8mm cartridges packed in 60 plastic packets and an additional 750 brass-coloured .315 bore cartridges stored in four packets.

Two individuals have been taken into custody in connection with the case: Shatrughan Sharma, 38, from Auraiya district in Uttar Pradesh, and Kumar Abhijeet, 25, from Nalanda district, Bihar. Both have been remanded to judicial custody while investigations continue.

“Based on intelligence received, a vehicle was intercepted and 3,730 live cartridges were recovered. Interrogation has revealed that the consignment originated in Kanpur, UP, and was being delivered to Nalanda,” SP Shukla said.

Authorities are yet to uncover any prior criminal records for either suspect. However, investigators are looking into possible connections to a wider arms smuggling network. During parallel operations, additional weapons and ammunition believed to be linked to the same group were also recovered in Nalanda.
