Nursing Students in Patna Join Campaign to Promote Organ Donation

Nursing students at IGIMS Patna took part in poster competitions and lectures to spread awareness about organ donation under a national campaign

Patna: A two-day program to promote organ donation was organised at the College of Nursing, IGIMS Patna. This event was held under the national ‘Jeevan Sanjivani’ campaign to raise awareness about organ donation among students. On the first day, a poster competition was organised where BSc Nursing and GNM students participated with great enthusiasm. The top three winners will be honoured on Organ Donation Day.

On the second day, a lecture was organised to inform students about the importance of organ donation. The program began with a welcome speech by Dr Anuja Daniel, Principal of the College of Nursing, who said that such events motivate students and help spread awareness in society. She also added that nurses play a key role in organ transplant processes and Bihar should work like other states to promote donation.

Dr Manish Mandal, Chairman of SOTO, told students that organ donation is managed under the National Organ Transplant Program and there are new developments in this field every day. He encouraged nursing students to conduct research on this topic. IEC Consultant Ekta explained the process of pledging for organ donation and urged everyone to take the pledge and promote it further.

Anyone above 18 years of age can register for organ donation by visiting www.notto.abdm.gov.in. The program ended with a vote of thanks by Dr Rupashree Dasgupta, Vice Principal. Faculty members, SOTO’s transplant coordinator Jaspal Singh, and program assistant Seema Kumari were also present during the program.
